Savvy Shopping: $1.99 Holiday Card Deal

Truthfully, I'm not a huge fan of VistaPrint, never have been, mainly because of the cheesy, free business cards I see people have made through them (sorry if I offended anyone). Over the weekend I came across an amazing deal for holiday cards. The promo said 20 personalized holiday cards for only $1.99.

I figured I'd just visit the link provided and see what the options available were. Surprisingly they had hundreds of holiday cards and every one of them was customizable outside, inside and on the back. I just knew there had to be a catch, that my almost free cards would end up being $20-30, no catch. They do have several option listed where they try to upsell you, but if you're just looking for cards, simply bypass all of the offers.

With customization on the front, inside and on the back where I included my photo and a message, it was still only $1.99 and the shipping $6, not bad. I usually pay $15-20 for 20 boxed cards each year at Target or Hallmark. These were half of that and are fully customized so I won't need to spend countless hours, writing messages and signing each of them. You truly can't beat this deal!

My Advice: Since it's still early in the season, I'd highly recommend you jump on this deal so you can pay the least amount for shipping and still receive your holiday cards prior to December.

Things to Do: Holiday Wine Soiree

A fellow tweeter, Melanie Spring, aka @Sisarina, came up with an amazing idea. She's hosting a FREE blind wine tasting at her office in Bethesda, MD.  The event/tweetup will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2010 from 5:00-9:00PM.

All participants are asked to bring 1 or 2 bottles of wine ($8-$25).  The labels will then be covered to allow guests to do a "blind" taste testing and vote on their favorites.  After the event, all of the participants will receive a listing of the top choices, along with how much each of the wines cost and where to buy them.  Additionally, food will be provided by Chef Tony's Restaurant in Bethesda.

For those of you who tweet, use the hashtag, #DCTweetup...
"#DCTweetup is a ‘non’-networking event for locals to put a face to a Twitter handle. It’s a relaxing evening of networking with your neighbors, local business owners and meeting new friends. This is not your typical ’state what you do & hand over your business card’ event. #DCTweetup is for the introverted & extroverted alike to share in great conversation, relationship-building and fun."

Holiday Party: Stepping into the Season w/ Step Afrika

I admit I've been a little out of the loop over the last month or so with my thoughts focused elsewhere and I've neglected to play the role of social butterfly but don't worry I'm back in full force for the holidays.

Well, it's that time of year again.  Time to spread a little holiday cheer, by doing a little schmoozing with friends, family, and coworkers.  Why not take some time out to support a worthy cause or two?

Recently, one of my favorite local dance groups, Step Afrika, sent an email saying they are having their first Holiday Party called "'Stepping' Into the Season."  It will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 7:00-10:00 at the Washington Design Center.  There is a suggested donation of $20 and it will entitle guests to hors d'oeuvres, music, raffles, a cash bar, and swag bags (who doesn't love swag!!)

Slice of Life & Free Pie Tastings - October 19-22

Just heard about this great holiday fundraiser that will benefit Food & Friends, a local charity that provides meals to those in need in Washington, DC and the surrounding communities.

Slice of Life is the only area pie sale allowing you to purchase your Thanksgiving pies while making an impact in the lives of thousands in need in your community. This large-scale bake sale is in its 4th year. As a supporter you can purchase pies for you and your family, as gifts for friends and for us to deliver to our clients on Thanksgiving Day. (This excerpt was taken from the Food & Friends website)

As an added incentive, for every pie that is purchased it will provide a full day of meals for one of their clients.  According to their website, in 2009 nearly 5,000 pies were sold. What a great cause!

In addition, they are offering free pie tastings this week!  See below for the locations and times.
